Play it safe
1. Philadelphia to win the NFC East. (-150)
I know this is terrible odds for a future but let’s be real. They are far and ahead the best team in the NFC east. While I think Alex Smith is an upgrade for the Skins and Dallas and Giants are better this year, they’re still not on Philly’s level. They also have the benefit of having a backup in case of the catastrophic QB injury that can ruin a season. Philly will win this division
2. New England to win Super Bowl. (+550)
At 5–1 it’s worth taking a team that seems to get there every year. They’ll definitely be in the hunt and most likely in the championship. I also like this play because you can put this as a plan B. Nobody wants to see the Patriots win it again but at least you’ll be covered if they do.
3. Steelers to win Super Bowl (+1200)
This number is really nice. This is a veteran team with some young talent and they’re not getting as much love as they should. They’re giving the Rams and Vikings a better chance. Which I get but they don’t have a Super Bowl winning QB. They don’t have arguably the best RB and WR in the league. Add in Schuster and they have the most offensive talent in the AFC. At 12-1 for a team -300 to win their division is solid. If they get a playoff bye you’re giving yourself a 1 and 4 chance to win 12-1. Not too bad
Let’s get a little weird
1. San Francisco to win NFC West (+300)
Right now everyone is high on the Rams and rightfully so. They made a TON of offseason moves. Suh, Peters, Talib, Cooks….and they were already a playoff team. While most people are hopping on that bandwagon I think San Fran are the Rams of last year. For starters Jimmy G hasn’t lost yet. Also Seattle is falling apart and Arizona is somehow rebuilding and retiring. Like the Rams, San Fran is a rising team and at +300 when in what might be a 2 horse race is pretty enticing.
2. Jaguars to win Super Bowl (+2500)
This is a no brainer. If it wasn’t the Jaguars this would be in the Safe section. This is a team who should of won the AFC Championship but choked. Now they’re 25-1 to win it all?? When they’re basically the same team? They lost Robinson but he was banged up last year anyway. Ivory is gone but Fournette has a year under his belt and who knows.. maybe Bortles is coming into his own. I’ll take take 25-1 on a final four team all day.
3. Carolina to win NFC south (+325)
This team is only 3 years removed from a Super Bowl appearance. They still have Cam, they still have Kuechley and they’re still a solid team. Mccaffery flashed a lot of skill as a rookie and Olsen will be back and healthy this year. I assume Tampa will be out of the picture. That means it’s a 3 horse race with Atlanta and New Orleans. I think Carolina has just as good as chance as both of them. Take those odds
Sometimes the long shots pay off the biggest
1. Buffalo Bills to win AFC east (+800)
To win Super Bowl (+10000)
This is a little bit of favoritism but let me explain. Bills made the playoffs last year at 9-7. It was a rebuilding year in most people’s eyes. I think they’re better this year even with the question at quarterback. They’ll manage it just like they did with Tyrod. They have the best defensive backfield in the game with the addition of Vontae Davis. While it’s going to be tough for anyone in the AFC east to beat the patriots the Bills might have the formula. A 9-7 team with these odds are solid
2. Tennessee to win Super Bowl (+5000)
Once again. A PLAYOFF TEAM. I think they would of competed with New England too is some early calls went their way. While they released Murray I think it just paves the way for this young team. Mariota is smart and this team can beat anyone. 50–1 is an absolute steal for a team who won a playoff game on the road last year.
3. Browns to win AFC north (+1000)
Bears to win NFC North (+700)
I couldn’t decide which one of these to choose as my final future. I believe both these teams will surprise people this year. Everyone has dogged the Browns but this is the year the dogs bite back. Their division is getting a little old at QB and with their defense and Tyrods game management they’ll definitely be in games. If they find a way to win some tough ones they could definitely compete for the division title. Even if not it’s 10-1 on a natural 4–1 odds. Take it…As for north if the NFC, I just like what the Bears are building. While they’re still a year or two away with this division you never know. I see a lot of beating each other up and parody in this division. If the Bears can steal a couple games they just might be able to get within range. I’d say they’d have to close the season on a 3-4 game win streak but you never know.
