Guess what show is back!! The show that has us all wanting to go back to the 80’s and live in Indiana. No really haha. The 3rd season of Stanger things was just released and like most people I binged watched it in a night.
First off, I always get a little confused with this show. I can’t tell if it’s supposed to he purposely bad at times or if it just happens. I get that it’s supposed to be a 80’s show and Goonies type adventure but a lot of times I feel it gets a little corny. This season took a huge swing and for me it didn’t necessarily land in all aspects.
The big plot twist this year is that Russians are involved. It’s not much of a spoiler alert because it happens in the first episode. So along with the Stranger Things they’re battling Russians as well. So, right off the bat we’re doubling down on the insanity of the show. Which again, if it’s supposed to be over the top corny that’s fine but I thought it wasn’t a little much. Especially considering the current Russian interference in the election. It just seemed kind of forced.
Outside of the Russian thing there was some good and bad. The good was it was Stranger Things. You got some nostalgia and so many things reminded you of the younger days. Also the added characters all did well. It created a bigger cast but it worked out. I was surprised by the action in the show as well. Obviously the show has always had the visuals and all that but this year they added some more action. The Russians helped with that so they weren’t all bad. But speaking of bad..
One thing not many people will complain about but I notice. The volume. Sounds weird but I had to keep adjusting my volume because any action scenes were blowing out my speakers. I kind of felt bad for my neighbors. With gunshots and all the creature noises it probably sounded crazy. Another thing was just believability on little things. Like sneaking past 15 people in a small room undetected. Or the hospital people in the small town not recognizing the locals. The town is also just completely oblivious to all this and somehow are never around for any of the real crazy stuff. Even this time around when a mall is a central setting. Lastly I just didn’t get it overall. I really didn’t understand the overall plot and meaning for everything happening. There was a heavy couple theme that only 2 characters weren’t involved in. It was like there were multiple plots and by the time they all intersected the show ended. But don’t worry…the “American” comment leaves a huge cliffhanger… I guess.
Obviously I recommend you see this Season because only an animal would give up after 2 seasons. Especially since last season was pretty good. That being said I’m less interested in seeing a Season 4. I’d probably watch it and write a review but I can’t see it getting better. It’s going from cool to corny in a sense. Maybe you’ll see it different but for good shows you have to keep rising to the occasion. I think Netflix didn’t rise to the occasion on this one.
