A couple months ago I was talking to this girl on a dating app and she talked about The Porch. We were actually going to hang out there one time but it fell through. Over the next couple months, I started hearing about the Porch a lot and even drove past it a couple times. Sign after sing and I finally ordered some carry out.
The first thing I noticed was that they have a turkey Rueben. Not a Rachael. A turkey Rueben. This was the first thing I noticed because I love Turkey Rueben’s and I hate when they’re called Rachels. To be fair, they have a Reuben with the option of turkey or corned beef. In any case let’s start there because I’ve never had a Reuben with pickles on it until now. The sandwich wasn’t that bad besides all the pickles and the bottom piece being soggy. The turkey had a good thickness to it. Not too thin and the sauerkraut had a good crunch to it. It was just overpowered by the pickles which I had to remove to enjoy it. It’s probably not good to have to remove something to enjoy a sandwich. I got them with the salt and pepper fries but they didn’t taste like that at all.
As usual, I also got wings. I opted for the honey hot and bleu cheese but I also received ranch. It’s not a big deal but it’s a waste for them and why give the option if you’re just going to do both? The wings were ok sized, and the sauce wasn’t the worst but there wasn’t much of it and they had no crispness. I understand when you get to go it’s hard to get that but these felt like they weren’t that crisp even before. They came with celery, carrots, and jicama. It’s always a nice touch with the jicama.
The last item I got was the 2 Tacos. They give you the option to which meat you want, and I chose braised beef. The tortillas weren’t great. They fell apart and kind of ruined them. I will say the beef wasn’t hateful and the rest of the topping weren’t bad. There just wasn’t much flavor. It needed a good Pico or something. The pickled onions didn’t add much. I got the truffle fries with this one and they actually had some flavor. I’m not the biggest truffle fan but these were decent.
I probably wouldn’t order from here again. Judging by the place and this food, it looks like it’s trying to overcharge for bar food. It’s not awful or anything but just nothing to write home about. If I ever grab a drink, there I might try the waffle tenders since it’s a play on chicken and waffles but I won’t be ordering any to go anytime soon. Reuben or not.
