Decided to review a nice local spot right down the street called Tacos Jalisco. While I’ve been here before I have yet to store review. As you can see by the pictures it’s a nice little shop with half restaurant and half carry out. There’s a salsa bar when you first walk in as well. You can tell by the pictures it’s not an upscale restaurant but it’s not a typical “fast food” place either. Spanish music is playing and there are enough seats to sit and enjoy a dinner there with the family.
On to the food. Since Tacos is in the name I decided to get Tacos. First let me start by saying that the food is pretty fast. You’ll get your order about 3-5 min after placing it. Especially ordering the tacos. I chose to go 2 carne aada, 2 chicken, and 2 carnitas. Toppings are pretty much the same on the carnitas and carne asada but the chicken had some bigger green peppers that were a surprise. In any case let’s start with the tortilla…
They go with corn tortilla and I have to say I’m a flour guy. That being said they make excellent corn tortillas. They’re thin so they double stack them and they don’t crumble like other poorly made corn tortillas. They hold up well against sauces and have a good elasticity to them. The size would be compared to that of a street taco. Which makes sense at $1.62 per taco.
Let’s start with the best meat. I usually don’t get carnitas but it took the cake out of these 3. It came with the most meat and the biggest chunks of meat. The meat was tender with a nice kick of salt at the end that brought it all together. Honestly it was one of the better carnitas I’ve had. Especially for the price. The second best was the carne asada. They give you a good bit of meat and I did enjoy them. The seasoning is a little pepper forward and they were a little dry though. I’d still order them again but I’d just get a little more sauce on them next time. The chicken was my least favorite. It kind of felt like a generic chicken fajita taco. I’d give it another shot but the flavors were just a little off. It didn’t feel like a chicken taco. Hard to explain but it wasn’t bad. Just wasn’t what I’d expect in a chicken taco.
Overall the tacos were pretty good. From what I’m told from my taco experts this place is pretty authentic. They weren’t the best I’ve had but they’ve got good flavor and some of the better corn tortillas I’ve had. You also can’t beat the $1.62 price all day every day. Add in the fact that you get pretty fast service and you’ve got a place you should check out.
