First let me start by saying that I’ve been trying to order delivery from this place recently and thanks to Covid its been extremely hard. I guess I could have picked up but let’s be real…I’m lazy.
The first thing I got was something I’ve never had before. To put it simply it’s a sausage wrapped egg. The pictures for the google search tended to show the egg slightly runny. I figured that was going to be hard to do for a to go order or maybe they don’t they don’t there’s runny because it was just straight hard boiled all the way through. They also gave you an option of 3 sauces for which I chose the GM. No idea what that meant but the appetizer as REALLY good. It’s the perfect little protein bite that pairs perfect with the sauce and isn’t too much. I thought I’d like it, but I ended up loving them. I also think they would have tasted worse with it being runny. Great start to the meal. The second appetizer was the parliament wings. This is not my first wing so I can confidently say these could have been much better. The size of the wings weren’t the worst and the actual taste of the sauce wasn’t bad, but it was like paste on the wings rather than a smooth sauce, they were also slightly dry. I did enjoy their bleu cheese but I’d work on the wings
For the entrée I got 2 Pasties. The Original and the Pilgrim. Let’s start with the bad news. I would never order the original again. It was packed full of potatoes and rutabagas and really overpowered everything. The beef wasn’t hateful but it had that cheap pepper taste to it. It came with the red wine gravy which is awesome but it couldn’t save it. The Pilgrim, however, was AMAZING. Its Thanksgiving in a pocket. The fact Hot Pockets hasn’t done this is crazy. As you can see it’s packed with turkey and the carrots and stuffing complement each other perfect. Then you dip it in the gravy and travel to heaven. They also give you cranberry sauce but I didn’t use it. The pasty was a little burnt in one spot but it was still excellent. Highly recommend this one.
To finish off the meal I ordered the PB and J pasty with a side of ice cream. I probably should have gotten more creative because I didn’t even eat this right away. There was so much jelly I couldn’t taste the peanut butter or the bananas. Later, once it cooled off and I let some of the jelly fall out it wasn’t bad. It didn’t make much sense with the ice cream after it was cooled but I think I get the concept. If I had eaten it there It would have been a big mess of goodness. I’d probably put less jelly in them and maybe serve it with another sauce. Then you can get the messiness in the restaurant and to go will still get the full effect.
Overall, I really like this place. For the most part it’s consistent and has a quality product. Some of the things weren’t great but the scotch eggs and the Pilgrim saved the day. The other items also weren’t deal breakers. While I wouldn’t order the Oggie again it is a stark reminder of evolving. The original is now just meh. In any case I suggest going to Cornish Pasty and seeing for yourself. If you dine in, they also have a daily special on Irish Car Bombs
