I’m super excited to write this review. I was scrolling through Netflix one day and stumbled upon this gem. One of the first things that stood out was that it was only one season. That’s always a selling point for me because it’s easy to catch up on and easy to sell people on. I still have friends trying to catch up on Game of Thrones. The second thing that stood out for me was the cast. One of the funniest guys from the league (Raffey) aka Jason Mantzoukas is in it. Also Andrea Savage, Tom Everett Scott, Judy Greer, and Gary Anthony Williams. If you don’t know who those people are trust me you’ll know them once you start watching..
First let me start by saying that this is a comedy. It’s not the type of show you need to see every episode to keep track. Another thing I like about my comedies. Also it airs on Tru Tv so there’s not explicit language like other Netflix shows. I don’t mind that kind of language but I appreciate good comedy regardless. One of my favorite comedians is Brian Regan and he doesn’t curse at all. That being said this show does push boundaries. It appears to be a family show but the content is the same type of comedy you’d see on shows like The League. In fact, Andrea Savage was behind the scenes in Veep and Episodes. Both shows I enjoyed which makes sense as to why I liked this show.
The premise of the show is that Savage works in comedy with Mantzoukas and the show centers around her husband (Scott) and their child. Their child is pretty young and it’s their first and only child. To sum it up its how they handle parenting and the “adult” world as two funny, common sense people. Something I think a lot of people have to face at some point. From raising their child and having to explain birthing, Nazi’s, racism, etc to dealing with the mundane adult life this show does exactly what its supposed to. It tackles the whole process in a funny way. I’ve been recommending the show to couples because parents will get a kick out of what they say and how they handle situations and the things they say. I’ve got nothing but good feedback from those who have watched it. They say things that cool, fun parents would say. The first episodes start with Savage explaining to her daughter in public about the process of the vagina expanding and tightening after birth… and yes its as funny as it sounds.
I don’t want to give too much away but just a couple tidbits.. Theres 2 anal references in the first couple episodes. They somehow tackle racism in the funniest way as well as handicapped people. There’s also peeing on hands, Harry Potter and Hitler references, and plenty of sex talk.. and that’s only the first couple episodes. As I’ve said I don’t want to spoil it but you will thoroughly enjoy this show if you’re looking to watch something with a significant other, especially if you have kids, this is the show. It may not be appropriate for kids under 13 but it’s a family oriented show. I highly reckoned this show for mature adults looking for more than just farts jokes and F bombs. While there are plenty of those jokes..for example, she says a baby is cute and is definitely going to be a cock tease, it s a clever comedy that pokes fun a the adult life. Essentially saying, just because you’re an adult doesn’t mean you can’t be fun and a little vulgar. I definitely recommend this show. I’ve already watched it through twice. You should check it out.
